I got this because it is the only edition of the bible that uses the Septuagint for its text for the Old testament, and the textus receptus for the New Testament. Why the Septuagint? Because, if you read the NT carefully, you'll find that whenever they quote the prophets, especially Isaiah, their quotations DONT match the Masoretic text used in most translations (including the King James) exactly, but they DO match the Septuagint...exactly! So it would be reasonable to conclude that the Septuagint or something very close to it was what the early church was using.
That said, I was not prepared for how MUCH teaching there is in this bible, that I've not found in any other study bible. This is a bible that informs your SOUL, not just your mind. The layout of the Old Testament is beautiful-it is faithful to the poetic form in which it was originally set down. Starting with Genesis chapter 1, and all thru out the OT, the notes make clear the foreshadowing of Christ and the Trinity t/o all the pages. There are relevant quotations from the Church Fathers in these notes, as well as references to other scriptures. There are also articles on the history of the church, how to read the bible, and there is a section for morning and evening prayers.
Did you know that the seventy that Christ sent out are all named in the NT? I didn't either...but there is a table that lists all of them, and where they are referenced in the letters of Paul. This bible just drips the history, and SOUL of the early church! This is a bible that informs, not just your mind, but your SOUL. Isn't that what we're all after?
You DONT have to be Orthodox to benefit from this bible! Whether you are Roman Catholic, or Orthodox, or Protestant Evangelical, you WILL be greatly blessed by this bible, I can promise you!
The only thing I wish is that this were available in a ThinLine leather version.
Maybe in the future....
