About the Contributor(s) Mike Berenstain

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

Preacher Brown wants the people of the church to get together at the Chapel to hold a blessing of the animals and pets of the community. It all sounds fun and great until they all get together with all of their different types of animals and things go haywire for a bit until Preacher Brown speaks and then something fascinating happens to turn everyone's attention back to the real reason they are there in the first place.

A sweet book about Bear Country that you don't want to miss!

“The Berenstain Bears Bless Our Pets” was sent to me by Zonderkidz – a division of Zondervan Publishing – in exchange for my honest review.
“The Berenstain Bears Bless Our Pets” was written and illustrated by Mike Berenstain…the son of the late Stan and Jan Berenstain, who introduced the Berenstain Bears series in 1962. It is a children’s picture book.
In this story Preacher Brown decided to have a blessing for all the pets in his church. The cubs were so excited to bring their cat, dog, bird and fish to the service. Other children brought many different kinds of pets. Of course, no one thought of the mayhem that would happen when you put dogs, cats, birds, mice, etc. together in one place …and happen it did! As always, there are verses and prayers to remember and beautiful pictures. And, at the end of this particular book, Mike included a word search puzzle.
As always, I highly recommend this and all of the Berenstain books to young readers and those who read to them.

I'm not going to lie I was a little worried at where this story would go since our Bible does not say a whole lot about pets and heaven, etc etc.

At the beginning it did have Proverbs 12:10- The righteous care for the needs of their animals.

An appropriate scripture to start us out with. The book introduces that the church will be doing "A Blessing of the animals" which I thought was a fun idea. Then my mind start to question it... like how crazy would church be if everyone brought their pets?! I know my dog would be barking and trying to get every other animal to run with her so I could imagine the chaos.

I started to laugh as my thoughts became part of the story. A cat scratched the pastors dog after the dog growled a little bit at it which caused all the animals to go crazy. The pastor got all the animals under control and the story ended being a fun one with laughter and reminding us that God blessed us with animals for joy!

Overall, this book is a fun one to read to kids. It makes you laugh and think about how enjoyable our pets are. It also makes you think about how creative our God is as creating all the different types of animals! (Posted on 3/6/2017)
