One Thousand Gifts Devotional is a devotional by blogger and author of the popular book One Thousand Gifts, Ann Voskamp.

One Thousand Gifts Devotional is a hardcover book with an attached ribbon bookmark. (The hardcover is just as you see it in the preview image, there is no dust jacket.)

Ann Voskamp has a very particular style of writing (very flowery and somewhat disjointed, in my opinion), and it takes me awhile to get in the mode. If you have read her blog or her book (One Thousand Gifts), you will be familiar with her writing style. I felt this was even more difficult to manage in a devotional than I did in her book, simply because devotionals are intended to be "digested" in small portions. At first, it took me reading about 5 devotionals in a row (in one sitting) for it to really start sinking in.

Each of the 60 devotions in One Thousand Gifts Devotional is followed by a short prayer and then the remainder of the last page is lined (for notes, prayers, etc.). In a few cases the prayer ends at the very end of a page, and, in these cases, there is no lined space.

The devotions have recurring themes such as: grace, joy, thankfulness, and trust. Some devotionals will flow into the next (more like a story), and some do not. (I did not feel like the devotionals in One Thousand Gifts Devotional were just snippets or portions from the One Thousand Gifts book, but it has been awhile since I read the book, so I may be forgetting. The reason I mention that is that I do not feel like it would be a waste to own both books.)

Yes, there are also 1000 lines (numbered) at the very back of One Thousand Gifts Devotional to record your own list of one thousand gifts.

I have had quite a few "lightbulb" moments from reading both One Thousand Gifts and One Thousand Gifts Devotional, but I also know that Ann Voskamp's writing style can be difficult to tackle. I feel like these are both great choices for reading and will benefit you if you have the time to get into Ann Voskamp-mode. :o)

I've not read the One Thousands Gifts book, by Ann Voskamp, that inspired this devotional. I am, however, adding it to the list of books that I want to add to my stack. This is an inspirational devotional and journal that is both heartwarming and uplifting.

“Is thankfulness really but the deep, contented breath of peacefulness?”

I’m always looking for a quality devotional, especially as each year comes to a close. I love knowing I can start over with new wisdom and insight. Having come across Ann Voskamp’s new devotional based off her bestselling book, I can say I’m excited to have this in my library, but share it with others as well!

With each daily devotion starting with a scripture and ending with a prayer and space to write thoughts and prayers (although depending on the length of the devotional, there were a few that didn’t have space or the lines were few), this devotional is truly a gift. It’s a gift to bring you to a place (whether for the first time or back again), where you once again can see and respond to God’s goodness.

"We give thanks to God not because of how we feel but because of who He is."

Through Voskamp’s beautiful and touching writing, a reader can’t help but be drawn more to God and experience more of Him. There’s also a journal pages full of quotes in the back with numbered lines, so if you haven’t, you can join in the original challenge of writing out 1,000 gifts. I’m new to Voskamp’s books these past few months, so I’m excited about focusing on this in the coming year.

Did you go through a devotional this year? I’d love to know what you you’ve gone through, have loved or are looking forward to!

(Thank you to Zondervan for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review)

Ann Voskamp has a way with words that draws the reader’s heart closer to God. She never writes for her own promotion. She doesn’t ever come across as haughty or know-it-all. She knows what it is to strain for more of God. More of His joy. More of His peace. These sixty devotionals are filled with that longing for more of God.

Following the success of One Thousand Gifts, her guide to giving thanks and finding joy in all aspects of life, Ann Voskamp returns with this One Thousand Gifts Devotional. Follow in her footsteps, and find 'joy in the midst of deadlines, debt, drama and daily duties.' The sixty devotions in the One Thousand Gifts Devotional explore the simple graces and the hard graces we all experience every day of our lives. Each devotion provides a daily Scripture and prayer and invites you to go deeper into the concept of grace explored in her book and on her blog, One Thousand Gifts has provided inspiration to many Christians swept up in the chaos of everyday life, and now you have the opportunity to respond with your own list of one thousand gifts.

About the Author:

Ann Voskamp is wife of one good farmer, the home-educating mama to a half-dozen exuberant kids, and author of the New York Times Bestseller, The Greatest Gift, and One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, a New York Times 60 week bestseller that has sold more than one million copies, the royalties of which the Voskamp family has given all away, the joy always in giving the gift back.

My Review:

Ann Voskamp has been a favorite of mine. She is very simple but she also can cut right through you to get to the heart of the matter. She shows us in the devotional that is meant to be the companion to her best selling book, One Thousand Gifts that God is in all things and His grace extends over into all areas of your life. Whatever it is, big or small, if you let Him, He is there. In One Thousand Gifts Devotional: Reflections on Finding Everyday Grace, there are 60 devotions and plenty of places throughout the book to journal but the author invites you to take the everyday things and see Gods grace in them.

Once you start looking it really is too hard to stop looking because His grace is something that shows itself almost immediately. My favorite devotional out of the entire book if I could only pick one would have to be Dark Grace. The words are so touching that they seem like light melting through you. She writes about her experiences and those of others in very touching ways. I love reading her work because her words speak to me heart in the most immeasurable ways!
