Nature Girl: A Guide to Caring for God’s Creation was written by Kim Whiting and and her daughter, Rebecca White. The book is recommended for ages 9-12 however, I feel would be good for any young girl who is looking to go green and take care God’s creation. This chapter book is jammed pack with information, activities like How to Purify Water , recipes like Zesty Citrus Spritz, and quizzes, like the Trash To Treasure Match Up . Each chapter covers a different topic, like “Power Up”, caring for God’s Critters and “Real Girls reduce, reuse and recycle”.
The book opens up almost immediately with the reader focusing on themselves and their inner beauty! What a great model for young girls. The book explains that you can be a glamorous girl and a nature girl and talks about everyone’s secret weapon, self confidence! I love that fact that this is brought to the attention of the reader in the beginning of the book. The writers emphasize how God made you exactly how he wanted you to be. I love this! We were all made in his image and to look and be like he wanted us to be.. This can never be stated too much when you are talking about a tween girl! I feel this book is a great read for any tween! I was so excited when I was asked to review this book. I know I'm a little older than the target age group, but that's never stopped me before. I have to say, I loved everything about this book, and it's one I would happily hand this to any one of my young cousins, or my own future daughter(s).

There is so much fun packed in this book that it's funny how you don't realize your learning anything until you look back afterwards. There are wonderful bits of Scripture throughout that kept a smile on my face, not to mention cool little crafts and earth-friendly recipes that made the book really interactive. I like the way that each chapter covers a different topic, that way it's not overwhelming and you can really drink it all in. This is own of those books that really is for the mind, the body and the soul. I feel like ever young girl could benefit from having a copy of this book, it focuses not only on protecting and preserving the earth, but on being yourself and being confident in yourself. I highly recommend! (Posted on 6/6/2014)

An Amazing New Book for Pre-Teen, Tween, and Young Teen Girls About Preserving God's Creation In Fun and Creative Ways!

The new book Zonder-Kidz Nature Girl by Karen Whiting and Rebecca White is completely cool from cover to cover. Part information, part recipe book, part activity, and all completely hands on and engaging for young girls look for ways to serve God and serve His creation.

Covering big topics like beauty products, healthy food, animal care, and sustainable power along with the usual topics of recycling and conservation. Instead of just giving young female readers a bunch of statistics and guilt, this book instead is full of ways to actively do something about the topics it is addressing.

Simple and delicious recipes are spread through out the book along with easy to do activities and projects that any young girl will be sure to love to try out this coming summer. The final 2 chapters wrap up the book with a positive spin about throwing a fun party in the park and having the right attitude in order to be a real "Nature Girl"!

My own pre-teen daughter loved this book. She loved all the recipes, activities, and we have been doing the end of the chapter quizzes together so be can both learn more about how to be better stewards of God's creation. If you are looking for a excellent book for your daughter or the girls in your ministry to check out this summer, be sure to pick this one up soon!!

Many moons ago I had my eyes set on a biology major. I’ve always loved biology and nature. Growing up, I was all about lots of fun, like Disneyland, science summer days and summer reading programs (it’s scary how crazy cool I was huh?). As a freshman in college, when I was going over the bio major’s requirements, I noticed classes with words like “organic,” “chemistry,” “physics” and other slanderous terms. It was at that point I had no choice but to throw up deuces to biology and change my major to communication studies/journalism.

Ain’t no one got time for the periodic table of elements.

But I still love biology and hope my nieces get a chance to explore nature and be amazed by creation as I once was (and still am). So a book like Nature Girl: a Guide to Caring for God’s Creation by Karen Whiting and Rebecca White is perfect to help develop a love of nature for young girls! Not only nature around them, but as people too, where they can develop a self-confidence and know God made them exactly as He meant too!

I kinda want to try all the recipes and ideas in this book. Just saying. Like the all girls spa day? I’m in! It’s written perfectly for young girls, with fun drawings, recipes for food and other fun stuff – like face masks & air freshener – and pretty much all things rad! Chapters also have quizzes (and who doesn’t love those??), real life stories, discussions (like how to take care of yourself, the planet, eating habits and other important things for young girls to think about), career ideas and all other goodness.

The chapters cover topics of inner beauty, eating right, taking care of Earth (I’d like to stay for awhile you know?), pets and animals, water conservation (and those who don’t have access to clean H2O), clean air, energy, recycling (reduce/reuse/recycle son!), pretty parks to visit and making going green something awesome to do!

This really is a fantastic read to share. With scripture sprinkled throughout, young girls will have a deeper understanding of what it all means and how to have fun living it out!

(Thank you Zondervan for the copy in exchange for my honest review!)
