Quick Overview:

From veteran author Cara Putman, Beyond Justice weaves a tale of mystery and suspense as up-and-coming lawyer Hayden McCarthy takes on the government in a controversial wrongful death case.

Hayden is on track to become the youngest partner in her prestigious DC law firm . . .

If the case she’s just been handed doesn’t destroy her first.

Hayden McCarthy knows firsthand the pain that follows when justice is not served. It’s why she became an attorney and why she’s so driven in her career. When she’s assigned a wrongful death case against the government, she isn’t sure if it’s the lucky break she needs to secure a partnership—or an attempt to make sure she never gets there.

Further complicating matters is Andrew Wesley, her roommate’s distractingly attractive cousin. But Andrew’s father is a congressman, and Hayden’s currently taking on the government. Could the timing be any worse?

The longer she keeps the case active, the higher the stakes become. Unknown enemies seem determined to kill the case—or her. Logic and self-preservation indicate she should close the case. But how can she, when justice is still just beyond her reach?

It’s obvious to the world that Kaylene Adams killed her daughter and was then shot by the police, but attorney Emilie Wesley knows Kaylene would never hurt anyone. She was in an abusive relationship and was looking for a way to escape. Emilie’s faith in her belief that she can make a difference in the lives of abused women is shaken by Kaylene’s death.

Kaylene’s brother, Reid Billings, finds a letter from her begging him to fight for custody of her daughters if anything happened to her. Reid knows that most attorneys will support the right of a parent rather than an uncle, but Kaylene tells him in her letter, Emilie will help him.

He and Emilie work together to save Kaylene’s surviving daughter and hope when it’s over they can find a future together.

Cara Putman’s Christian-fiction book, “Imperfect Justice” is a page-turning thriller. I found myself hooked from the first page and was kept on the edge of my seat, at times biting my nails until the last page. Putman has just the right mix of suspense, romance, legal action and spirituality to make it work. Although this is the second book in the Hidden Justice series, it can be read as a stand-alone. However I would recommend reading the first one before reading this one.

Beyond Justice by Cara Putman is a legal suspense thriller. I was afraid that this would be another book full of legal talk but it wasn’t. Cara gave enough information so that you could follow the court proceedings but you were not overwhelmed. The suspense level was not very high as you were mainly trying to figure out who was hiding what, instead of a lot of action. Overall, I liked the book and would recommend it. (Posted on 5/8/2017)
