Quick Overview:

A Father’s Love is a level two I Can Read! retelling of the familiar Bible story of a father’s love for his child. Young readers learn about God’s love as a reflection of a father’s love, acceptance, and forgiveness. This is part of the I Can Read! series based on the bestselling NIV Adventure Bible.

A young man took his share of the family fortune and left his father’s house. He wanted to travel and have fun. Soon the man didn’t have anything left to even buy food. Will his father forgive him? Will he let the young man come home again?

This is a Level Two I Can Read! book, which means it’s perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences. It aligns with guided reading level J and will be of interest to children Pre-K to 3rd grade.

Growing up, I remember the I Can Read! series. I really like how Zondervan is releasing Christian versions of these. I particularly enjoyed A Father's Love. I really liked the illustrations. Even from the cover, I felt like this was going to be a good book. I think many kids will enjoy the illustrations.

On the inside front cover, there is a spot to write the child’s name. This may be in other books, but this is the first time I noticed it. I think this is really cool as it is not just a place to write the name of the child the book belongs to, but I think it can be a cool incentive for them to learn to read the book. I think parents can let children write their name in the book, or the parent can do it after the child reads the book. This can act as a “certificate.”

I think the story fit very close to the Bible. The thing to keep in mind is that this is a retelling, so it isn’t 100% word for word what the Bible says, but is presented in a way kids will understand and get the biblical message.

I would be happy to have this book in my collection for my child to have and I really like what Zondervan did with this book. I found the illustrations to be very well done and have a modern look and feel. I am excited for more books to be released in this series.

A great tool, using a Bible story for an I Can Read book! I was excited to see these offered because I knew I would be sharing them with my nephew. The story is great for his reading level and it is also sharing God's Word. The artwork is eye-catching and very well done. There is nothing to not like about this wonderful storybook. 4.5 stars from this reviewer. A very popular Bible story for adults as well as children is the story of the Prodigal Son. To summarize, it is a story of a son that thought that he could make it on his own out in the world without the help of his father. But after much trial and error, he realized that he would never make it without the love and protection of his father's love. This story is to be compared to Our Father God & His love for us. He tries to get us to realize time and time again, that without Him we will never survive in this world. This world is not our true home, and as a result we should not want to be a part of it. This book is a level two, in the I Can Read series, so an early reader should be able to read it with some help. Perfect for the 4-8 age group, but also can be read aloud to a younger group.

The Adventure Bible books are exquisitely drawn and illustrated. The full color illustrations are also something my son and I enjoy as we read along.

A Father's Love is an age appropriate retelling of the story of the Prodigal Son. The illustrations are colorful and appealing. The retelling of the story is accurate and clearly conveys the message Jesus told in this parable. At the beginning and the end of the book, Luke 15:32 is written to reinforce that these are not just nice stories but messages from the Bible. (Posted on 1/16/2015)

This is a beautifully written and illustrated “I can read book” is a story about the Prodigal Son. This book is for ages 4-7, but younger children will be delighted with the colorful illustrations. This is a wonderful story in easy-to-read and understand format. It reinforces how the love between a child and their parents can overcome problems resulting in forgiveness. It also reinforces that our actions be it good or bad, always has consequences.

My son enjoyed this book. We've talked about the story of the prodigal son before and he was glad that the father loved his son, no matter what. He easily applied that to God, and said "just like God will love us no matter what."

This year watching Reed learn to read in first grade has been such a joy! I love reading with my sweet boy and having him read to me. Lately he started reading to his younger sister and brother and it's just the most precious thing ever! And a nice break for mom I must say!

We really like the I Can Read books from Zonderkidz. The books go in steps depending upon the readers ability. Reed quickly moved through step 1 and is now onto step 2.

As a Christian mom, of course I want my kids to read the Bible as much as possible and for kids, it starts with the popular Bible Stories! One of the stories he read on his own was A Father's Love, the story of the prodigal son.

This was his first step 2 book and he was super proud of being able to read it himself. I really like the sense of accomplishment reading the step books gives to kids. I also like that these stories are Biblically accurate, yet put into easier language for young kids to understand.

The pictures in this book are very much what Reed likes with great colors and cartoon like characters.

As the story in the Bible, A Father's Love is a great message of love, hope and forgiveness. This is a lesson I want my kids to know and understand at a young age so that they will carry it with them in their hearts and never forget A Father's Love. (Posted on 12/29/2014)
