“Yuletide Ice Cube Fair” was sent to me by Zonderkidz, a division of Zondervan Publishing. It was free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.
“Yuletide Ice Cube Fair” is a Veggie Tales children’s picture book written by Karen Poth. Its illustrations were done by Ron Eddy and Robert Vann. I believe that children love to see the characters as vegetables…which will make them sit to listen to or read this book. Also, the rhythm and rhyme holds little ones’ attention.
This book is precious! The Veggie Tales are having an ice carving contest about what Christmas means to them. There was a feast, a grand prize, a MALL, Santa and his reindeer, even a multitude of angels. But, my favorite was Junior’s nativity scene. What a precious way to tell the Christmas story!!
I DEFINITELY recommend this book!!

Yuletide Ice Cube Fair by Karen Poth is a wonderful addition to the VeggieTales family. It’s Christmas time and the Yuletide fair is here. All of the people attending the fair can participate in a contest, and are given 7 hours to create, out of ice, what Christmas means to them. Mr. Lunt makes a tree, Jimmy makes a grand feast, and there is even a mall created by Laura Carrot. The winner of the contest is Junior, and he didn’t make the biggest or grandest sculpture…he made a very small, tiny manger. What’s so great is that this book tackles the commercialization that exists with Christmas, but then shows what Christmas is truly about, in a way that is easy for kids to understand. The true meaning. Oh, and who doesn’t love VeggieTales.

Book has the VeggieTales characters each carve a piece of ice. The most brilliant one was so small of the manger with baby Jesus in it with a shepherd on one knee. It is all about Jesus during Christmas time as he was born, and it shouldn't be about material things.

My Review:

Join in the Veggie Tales, as the annual holiday ice carving contest is set to begin. Each carver entering the contest is asked to carve a block of ice into what Christmas means to them.Junior Asparagus is this years winner as he gently and quietly reminds the entire town of the true meaning of Christmas.

I absolutely adored this story and I plan on reading it to my preschoolers Sunday school class at our Christmas party. A sweet story with the best reminder of all on who is the reason for the season. May we never forget the price He paid and His gift to us! If you would like to learn more, you can at this link. Written with 4-8 year olds in mind, this book has the perfect story to bring in the holiday. My boys enjoyed it as I read aloud and they sipped hot chocolate. This one is a keeper!

Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a new Veggie Tales book from Big Ideas Books and Zondervan/Zonderkidz. The age range for this book is 4-8, but I am guessing that is mainly due to the fact that it is a paperback with paper pages. I think younger kids would enjoy this book as well.

As you would expect from any Veggie Tales book, the illustrations by Ron Eddy and Robert Vann in Yuletide Ice Cube Fair are cute, colorful, and entertaining. Gotta love Veggie Tales!

The Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a story (written in rhyme) of an ice carving contest showcasing each participant's depiction of what Christmas means to them. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the moral of this book. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the point was made (clearly, yet in a fun way) that Christmas is not about Santa, elves, trees, food, or shopping - but that Christmas is about Jesus coming to earth.

I think the Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a fun book and a great story to share with children.

What does Christmas mean to the Veggie Tale bunch? This story explores that very thought. A cute story written in rhyme, you will enjoy finding out who knows the real meaning of Christmas. I enjoyed this little book very much and am sure my nephew will enjoy reading it also. A great story with a great message. Don't get lost in the busyness of the season. Always remember the real reason for Christmas. 4.5 stars

It is pretty safe to say, most preschoolers and elementary age children enjoy VeggieTales stories whether they are on dvd, video, bluray or in a book! So when I was sent a new Christmas Veggie story to review, I was very happy to do so - and I'm even more happy to say, this is a wonderful Veggie Christmas story!

Favorite Features -
This story is packed full of favorite Veggie "friends" - children are going to love it!
Colorful illustrations - children are going to love it!
Fun Christmas story - children are going to love it!
Strong message about what matters most on Christmas - parents are going to love it!
Zonderkidz says; "It's time for the Yuletide Ice Cube Fair! Veggies gather to eat snow cones, slurp slushies and ice skate - but the best part of all is the Ice Cube Carving Contest! Join Veggie friends as they discover it's not what's biggest of best which matters most on Christmas. It's Jesus!"

I love the fun in this story! Snow cones, Root Beef Float skating rinks, a frozen Slip and Slide . . . lots of fun in this story for sure! But the focus of the Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is on how; "Christmas isn't all about the big, the bright, the new. Christmas time means Jesus - and the love He brought for you." Children's ministry leaders, parents and grandparents will all appreciate the fun in this story, but more so, the focus as it helps children remember while they can certainly enjoy the fun of the season, we celebrate because Christmas is about Jesus! YULETIDE ICE CUBE FAIR is just as cute as can be. I love the premise behind this book, and it is so perfect for the upcoming holiday season. My five children are huge fans of Veggie Tales, so they all really loved that book. And it is so perfect, with the seemingly most insignificant carving (the smallest) is the one that shows the real meaning of Christmas.

If you are looking for a Christmas book for your favorite child (ages 4 – 8, but any age really) then look no further! YULETIDE ICE CUBE FAIR needs to be on your Christmas list, for sure. (Posted on 10/25/2014)

Every time I start to type a review for Veggie Tales I immediately start singing "....celery, broccoli, gotta be, VEGGIE TALES." I just had to get that out of the way so I'd stop singing it!

Yuletide Ice Cube Fair is a fun Christmas book for the Veggie Tales lover in your house. Just looking at the cover you know your kids are going to love it! It's Christmasy with all their favorite characters; what's not to love?

This is a rhyming book which somehow just seems Christmasy to me. It reminds me a bit of The Night Before Christmas in it's cadence.

At the Ice Cube fair, the veggies are asked to sculpt in ice what Christmas means to them. Here we get the typical responses: Santa, Elves, food, etc. It takes the littlest of them all to remind them what Christmas is all about.

After reading this to my kids for the first time we talked about what Christmas means to them. It was a fun time for our family to talk about our family traditions, their favorite part of Christmas and to remind them of the true meaning. Then we read the Christmas story together. As usual, Veggie Tales messages were perfect for our kids to understand. Bringing it to their level always helps the message to hit home!

I loved the message in the Yuletide Ice Cube Fair! The story started off as a tale that reminded me of the classic picture shown in movies of someone reading to a child who is full of anticipation.

I also thought the illustrations in this book were enjoyable and helped bring the story to life. I think many children will enjoy hearing about many of their favorite VeggieTales characters.

I was also very impressed with the meaning of this story. The town is having an ice carving competition and the different Veggies make different things, but the winning one goes to the smallest sculpture–the one that really shows what Christmas means. I love this message and think it is a great reminder and lesson for us all.

The story has great pictures and if your children are fans of Veggie Tales then this book will become a favorite.

I enjoyed the main message of putting Christ at the center of Christmas but the story also motivated my kids and they want to have a sculpture contest. I said we could use snow once we have one so they have to have some patience until the snow flies and their is enough to pack.

I personally liked this story because the winner of the ice sculpting was one of the youngest one and made one of the smallest sculpture but was victorious because he pt his focus on the true meaning of Christmas. It is easy to compare the winner with Jesus for extra conversations. With my children we also discussed the other sculptors and why they carved them or how they related to Christmas.
