“Rich characters, a forensic artist’s eye for detail, and plot twists—Carrie Stuart Parks hits all the right notes!” —Mary Burton, New York Times bestselling author

An unsolved case. A tempest of memories. The future’s at stake—and time is running out . . .

Gwen Marcey has done a good job keeping the pain of her past boxed up. But as she investigates the case of a missing child in Lapwai, Idaho, details keep surfacing that are eerily similar to her childhood traumas. She doesn’t believe in coincidences. So what’s going on here?

No one knows more about the impact of the past than the Nez Perce people of Lapwai. Gwen finds herself an unwelcome visitor to some, making her investigation even more difficult. The questions keep piling up, but answers are slow in coming—and the clock is ticking for a missing little girl. Meanwhile, Gwen’s ex-husband is threatening to take sole custody of their daughter.

As Gwen’s past and present collide, she’s in a desperate race for the truth. Because only truth will ensure she still has a future.

Disclaimer: I received this eBook from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, for free to read and review through the blogger review program at Book Look Bloggers. I was not required to give a favorable review only an honest review, nor was I compensated for my review. All thoughts and comments in this review are my own.

Interagency Major Crimes Unit Forensic Artist, Gwen Marcey’s own problems of breast cancer and divorce doesn’t keep her from focusing on her investigation of Beatrice Sinope, a missing child in Lapwai, Idaho. As she delves deeper into the investigation, details of her childhood keep surfacing. Gwen doesn’t believe in coincidences. Even though she is unwelcome by some of the Nez Perce people, she doesn’t let that stop her from doing her job and doing it well.

Ms. Parks weaves a story that will capture your heart from the first page and as the events of the story unfolds; the suspense will keep you on the edge of the seat. Although child abduction is a serious situation, Gwen’s character has a degree of lightheartedness, which will bring a smile to your face in the midst of tragedy.

For me this book was a win-win because it is filled with mystery, suspense, a little romance and second chances, along with learning to trust God’s guidance.

I always get a little nervous trying out “new to me” authors. Especially when I don’t know if I will be jumping into the middle of a series or not. I can honestly say, that I had no problem jumping into this 4th Gwen Marcey novel by Carrie Stuart Parks—in fact, I hope to eventually go back and catch up on the previous three.

When I first started the book, I wasn’t sure if I would like it though. There was something about Gwen’s character that just didn’t quite jive with me. Going back, I cannot quite pinpoint what it was. But, a few chapters in, either her character just grew enough that I began to understand her more of the case she was trying to solve caught my interest.

I will say that this is one of those books that I would not recognize as “Christian” novel typically, however it is a very clean book. There is very little mention of God or faith in the book. But, there is no language or sexual content. There is some violence and blood in the book but nothing beyond what I would expect of a suspense and mystery novel.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and it is one that I am comfortable recommending. And like I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I hope to read the previous three Gwen Marcey books and will certainly be keeping an eye out for future novels by Carrie Stuart Parks.
