Brendan Kearney

While studying Architecture, Brendan Kearney realized he didn’t like rulers. He also discovered that drawing pictures for a living was a legitimate and fun career option, so he traded architecture for illustration as quickly as he could. Brendan now creates children’s book, bringing his own chaotic style and ideas to his projects. If you can’t find him drawing you’re likely to find him with a guitar or banjo in hand.

The Pennypepper children decide that they want a puppy but in order for them to get a puppy they need to raise or earn money to get one. So they decide to have a car wash. Each child sets out to do a job to help get this bright idea underway. Soon the customers trail off and the bright idea starts to grow dim. The children start thinking negatively and pretty soon they are ready to throw in the towel.

It's not long before someone comes along to help, Captain Snout. Captain Snout points out to the children that the bad thoughts aren't really helping their situation. That all of their negative thoughts could actually make things worse. He describes the negative thoughts and feelings as ANTs. He then proceeds to show them how to look on the brighter side of things and how to overcome negative thoughts and feelings that we sometimes face.

A great book that reinforces positive thinking and positive behavior.

I was very excited to read this book because in the title it says, " Super Power Questions" and that made me curious. Then also on the cover, it says, "Don't let the ants steal your happiness." I knew right away this book was going to be a book that would need to go to my classroom at school for social skills lesson.
The big idea in this story is changing the way we talk. Instead of talking negative or thinking negative we need to change it and ask ourselves a couple questions which include 1. Is that thought in your head true? and 2. Are you 100% sure it's true? These two questions really make you think through the statements that are made. These questions can help eliminate whines and "I can't" statements.
This Zondervan book is one that covers scriptural truths without actually quoting scriptures. It makes it really easy for me to bring to school. Hopefully, I can sneak more conversations that align with the Bible and this book after I read this story with students. (Posted on 9/29/2017)
